The Cat Came Back

The cat was on the hilltop
and the bird was near the dog.
The grass was getting deeper
and the mist turned into fog.

The house was awful quiet
as the cat began to creep.
The bird seemed not to notice
while the dog was getting sleep.

The cat was moving toward the house
with grass between his toes.
He had to stop to hold a sneeze
from weeds ticklin' his nose.

The bird was getting restless
from the cat right at the door.
There was so much silence,
then the dog began to snore.

The cat seeked entrance by the door
but it was locked and closed,
and by the snores the cat could tell
the dog had surely dozed.

The cat climbed to the window
and could see inside the room.
The bird looked awful nervous,
for he thought it was his doom.

The dog awakened by the sound
of screeching with much fear,
and of the noisy little bird
he had pulling on his ear.

The dog then noticed cat aloft
and thought that's where he'd keep.
And with a shrug and great big yawn
he went back into sleep.

The cat saw this and felt so proud,
he proceeded with such class.
He walked toward the room and felt the fool
as his nose bumped into glass.
